Daniel Widner

Daniel Franklin "Dan" Widner was born on December 11, 1956 in Garden City, Kansas the son of LaMonte and Alice Stude Widner. He departed this life, June 3, 2013 at his home in LaCygne. Dan graduated from Prairie View High School in the Class of 1975. On December 21st of that same year, he married Cathy Slaughter, daughter of Gene and Madeline Barker Slaughter. Their marriage was blessed with five children. In Dan''s early adulthood he worked training hunting dogs with D. L. Walters. He also worked for a time as an EMT for Franklin County. He was administrator of the Swan Manor Nursing Home, LaCygne and later Pine Crest in Paola. Dan and Cathy were foster parents for a number of years, opening their home to children who needed a place of peace and safety. Eventually they adopted three of these children and accepted them as their own. He was preceded in death by his father, LaMonte "Lem" Widner in 1998. Survivors include his wife Cathy of the home, daughter Jodi (James) Meek, daughter Katie (Brent) Knop, daughters Ali and Krystal Widner, and son Matt Widner, grandchildren Hunter and Micaleigh "Mimi" Knop, brother, Jim (Sherry) Widner, sister Roselynn (Wilbur) Armstrong of LaCygne, sister Jeannie(John) Orth, mother Alice Widner and many nieces and nephews. For over twenty years Dan suffered from a rare debilitating disease that made it impossible for him to digest food. Although he was constantly in pain, he never complained, and always asked if he could do something for you. Everyone who knew Dan admired and respected him. He was very much loved by his family and other and will be sadly missed. "There is no death! Memorial service will be held Saturday June 8, 2013 at 1 PM at the New Life Baptist Church, LaCgyne. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 PM Friday at the Church.
