Chester Shaw

Chester (Chet) Ernest Shaw, age 89, of Mound City, Kansas, died on January 7, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas. Chester was born on September 13, 1919 in Amoret, Missouri, to Fred and Cora Mears Shaw and was the ninth of ten children. . Chet married Ruby Lee Gatlin Shaw on April 15, 1939, at the Linn County Courthouse. The couple had two children, Cora Lee Shaw, and Ernest Lee Shaw. Chet was a self-employed farmer who owned and operated a dairy for over 35 years, when he "retired" and managed his stock cattle for another 20 years. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters, a daughter, Cora Lee Shaw who died on January 24, 1951, and wife, Ruby, who died on February 2, 2005. He is survived by his son, Ernest Shaw and wife, Joyce, of Lawrence, Kansas, a grandson Troy Shaw and wife, Jamie, of Kansas City, Kansas, a sister Gladys Shaw and brother, Lester Shaw, both of Pleasanton. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at the Coffle-Schneider Chapel in Pleasanton. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Family suggests contributions to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital c/o the funeral home. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Paul bearers were Troy Shaw, Randy Ross, Jay Rusk, Bob Stevanus, Steve Hedges and Richard Miller.
