Chester L. "Chet" Baston, age 87, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Monday May 5, 2014. He was born on February 18, 1927 at Farlinville, Kansas the son of Floyd and Estella Holt Baston. He attended grade school at Walnut Grove and later Mound City High School. He served his country in the United States Army as a military police officer during World War II. Chet married Zella Staton on January 28, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage on their most recent anniversary. Their first home was in Kansas City, Kansas for ten years. They then moved to Pleasanton to raise a family. Chet drove to and worked in the Kansas City Metropolitan area for many years working at different jobs including, Senate Lawn Mower, and Pittman Manufacturing. He later was co-owner of Pleasanton Laundromat and Monkey Business Video. His most recent job before retiring was receiving clerk at Baker''s Thriftway. Chet enjoyed fishing on Little Sugar Creek, country music, playing cards, and board games with his children and grand children. He was a member of the Fort Scott V.F.W., and past member of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Lavern, Russell and Charles. He is survived by his wife Zella, son, Jim Baston and wife Elisabeth, two daughters, Janice Streeter and husband Jim, and Sherry DeLaney and husband Doug, a brother Leslie Baston, two sisters, Dorothy Troth and Ione Pearson, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial in the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to The Residencies at Pleasanton. On line memories may be shared at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
