Charles E. Hennen Jr., 68, of Linn Valley, Kansas died Thursday, December 11, 2008. Mr. Hennen was born February 9, 1940 in Caldwell, Kansas. He was the son of Charles E. Hennen Sr. and Effie A. Hennen. He attended Caldwell schools and graduated in 1958. Mr. Hennen attended Phillips University in Enid, OK where he graduated wit a B.S. in Education and Chemistry. Upon graduation from Phillips University, Mr. Hennen married Moretta L. Saar who also attended Phillips University. Together they made their firs home in Altamont, KS where Mr. Hennen taught Chemistry, Physics and Biology in several schools across the state of Kansas. In addition to teaching in public schools for many years, Mr. Hennen also coached at the high school level. Mr. Hennen had served as Science Teacher and Head Football Coach at Jefferson West High in Meriden, KS. Mr. Hennen taught and coached at Rossville High School for eleven years. He taught science and was Head Boys Basketball coach and Head Boys Baseball coach. Mr. Hennen also attended Pittsburg State University where he received his M.S. Degree in 1968. His masters degree was awarded in Natural Science with an emphasis in Chemistry. Mr. Hennen attended Kansas State University in Manhattan for several years. He received his school administration certification in 1980. His course of study to an Ed. D at Kansas State University was set aside by health problems, A.B. D. In 1983 Mr. Hennen accepted a position as high school principal/athletic director at Flinthills High School in Rosalia, KS. He served in that capacity for seven years. With his course work in school administration, Mr. Hennen took a position as Superintendent of Schools at Wathena, KS. He also served in a similar position at Pleasanton, KS and at Utica, KS. Mr. Hennen retired from public education in 2002 after 37 years of service. He spent several years playing golf and enjoying his grandchildren. Mr. Hennen was proud to have been a school administrator and being involved in planning and directing educational efforts in several school districts. He was most proud to have played a significant role in the personal education and development of many students while he was teaching and coaching. Survivors include his wife, Moretta of Linn Valley; two sons, Matthew Hennen of Wichita and Donald Eric Hennen and wife, Paige of Oklahoma City; a sister, Edith Fletcher and her husband, Ron of Wichita and six grandchildren: Taylor Jean Hennen, Taylor Marie Hennen, Jessica Hennen, Charles Cooper Hennen, David Eric Hennen and Eve Alyssa Hennen. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne, Kansas.
