Bertha Lorene McClaughry, age 97, of Hume, Missouri passed away Monday March 17, 2014 at the Mercy Health Center. She was born in Old Walnut, Hume, Missouri on September 20, 1916 the daughter of G. F. and Bertha Rachael Falor Horton. She graduated from the Hume High School in the Class of 1933. She worked in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Arizona and California where she raised her step-daughter Sandra Kay Gilbert who preceded her in death in 1980. She was married to Harry McClaughry on October 12, 1978. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2007. Also preceding Lorene were her parents, three brothers: Elmer Horton, Harry Horton and wife Manetta, and Willie Horton and wife Georga, three sisters, Lucille Horton, Grace Neal and husband Vernon, and Ethel Herndon and husband Jim. She was a member of the Hume United Methodist Church, where she played organ for many years, Hume Alumni Association, fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Independence Club and Hume Sr. Citizens. She is survived by two step grandsons, Darin and Dean Chambers, nieces and nephews: Rodger Herndon, Harriet Bogan and husband Larry, Joe Herndon, Carollee Nash, Willadean Fix and Willis Horton and other great and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Hume Chapel. Burial in the Hume Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to service time.
