Berniece Johnson, 91, of Chanute, KS, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013. She was born on December 9, 1921 in Altoona, Kansas the daughter of Walter Bradford and Marie Wiltse . Berniece received her cosmetology license from Independence Cosmetology School. She married Mark H. Johnson on May 9, 1942 in Independence, KS She owned and operated her own beauty shop out of their home in Thayer, KS. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband Mark H. Johnson, sisters Virginia Stone, and Lois Erickson, and one infant granddaughter Tara Johnson. She is survived by her son Mark Kent and Cindy Johnson (Haslet, TX), son Steven and Carrie Johnson (Fort Collins, CO), daughter Dee Ann and Don George (Prescott, KS), sister Bonnie Ladd, brother Lee Bradford, 6 grandchildren including two granddaughters whom they raised, Kimberly Wilson and Sonya Noland, and 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1102 E 14th, Chanute, KS. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 101 N. Highland St. Chanute, KS. The family suggests contributions to the Guest Home Estates Activity Fund, 7440 220 Road Chanute, KS 66720 or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 2404 W. 8th, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
