Barbara Jo Mooney, age 79 of LaCygne, Kansas passed away on March 8, 2011 at her home in rural LaCygne. "Barb" as she was called by family and friends, was born on July 8, 1931, at West Mineral, Kansas, the eighth of nine children to John and Elizabeth Robertson Spendal. Barb attended school in West Mineral and Cherokee, Kansas. She graduated from Cherokee High School at the age of 16. After High School graduation, she began working for the Sears and Roebuck Company in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was employed in the credit department for ten years. In November, of 1955 she married Bobby Mooney in Independence, Missouri. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in November. From 1955 to 1956, Bob and Barb resided in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where Bob was stationed in the United States Army. In 1956 they returned to Independence, Missouri, where they resided until April 1962, when they purchased the farm in rural LaCygne that became their permanent home. Barb and Bob raised Black Angus cattle for many years. In 1969 they went into the farm equipment manufacturing business, where for ten years they made and sold mineral feeders, stock racks and other farm equipment. Barb sewed the flaps for the mineral feeders and did the bookkeeping for the business. After selling the business in 1980 Barb became a full time homemaker. Barb and Bob became the parents of two children, Jim and Janet. Barb was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Charles and Johnny, and six sisters; Rachel, Grace, Ethel, Elizabeth, Betty and Ann. Barb is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; a son Jim of LaCygne, and a daughter Janet Reese and husband Randy of LaCygne, three grandsons; Eric, Brandon, and Joey Reese of LaCygne, two granddaughters Crissy Reese of LaCygne, and Bri Dilley and husband Donnie of Mound City, Kansas, and one great grandson Colton, and many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday March 12, 2011 at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in LaCygne, Kansas.
