Audrey Remler

November 10, 1925 — April 13, 2014

Audrey Jewell Schasteen Remler, age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Sweet Life in Shawnee, Kansas. She was born on November 10, 1925 in Mound City, Kansas the daughter of James and Lois Good Schasteen. Immediately after graduating from Mound City High School she went to work for Bartles and Shores Chemical Company until she retired forty-six years later. Audrey loved to travel and had several hobbies such as painting, and charcoal art. She founded and organized an annual reunion of the sailors who served on the USS Nashville Cruiser during WWII. The reunion began with twelve members and ended several years later with over 250 members. Audrey was preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands: William Daniel Stainbrook, who died at an early age from cancer; William Daniel Zeigler, who died from diabetes and her husband of forty-eight years, Edward Remler. Survivors include her brother, Eddie Schasteen and wife Joyce of Arlington, Texas, two step daughters, Adline Donhue and Teresa Green; a niece, Cynthia Bates; a nephew, Kenneth Schasteen; three great-nephews; one great-niece and host of extended family. Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at the La Cygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer''s Foundation or Linn County Care to Share.
