Allen Tribby, 93, La Cygne, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in his home. Allen was born June 14, 1919, in Lisle, MO. He was the first of five children of Albert and Wilma Stoker Tribby. He was baptized into Christ in 1939, in the old original Christian Church in La Cygne along with eight other young people from the Star Valley community, one of whom was his future wife. His elementary education was at Calvert school near Freeman, MO, Waverly, MO, and completed at Star Valley, La Cygne. He fondly remembered that in order to pass into high school, Kansas rural students were required to take an eighth grade county exam. He, along with all rural Linn County eighth graders assembled at Mound City for the testing. He graduated with the class of 1939 from La Cygne High School where he was a Charter Member and president of La Cygne Chapter of FFA. He attended Fry Aircraft School in Kansas City, and then moved to San Diego to begin work at Consolidated Aircraft Corporation assembling B-24 Bombers. When America entered World War II he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as crew chief on B-25s. Allen married Marjorie Shaull, March 22, 1947, in the parsonage of the Central Christian Church, Kansas City, Ks. They celebrated their 66th anniversary two days prior to his passing. They are the parents of two children. Allen worked at Bendix Corp, retiring after 26 years. He enjoyed working with machinery and was a talented mechanic. He was involved with farming most of his life. He had a great interest in the early development of aircraft and the heroes who flew them. He was an avid reader of books about them. He had a great love of the automobile and was his happiest when he was behind the wheel. He cherished Sunday drives and day trips as well as extensive destinations for family vacations. Among his favorites were the 25 years of trips to Renfro Valley KY. He was known for his gift of detailed recall of dates, circumstances and events. He was considered the family historian. He had a great sense of humor, loved people, and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Sloan, and brother, Leonard Tribby. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Marjorie of the home, daughter Deborah Shorthill and husband Allan of Wichita, son Doug Tribby of Mission, granddaughter Sarah Shorthill Schmidt and husband Luke of Socorro, NM., sister, Betty Harris and husband Robert of Tucson, AZ, brother John Tribby of Lander, WY. and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is respecting his request for Cremation and no service. Private family inurnment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
