Alice Ellen Holroyd, 86, of Mound City, Kansas, died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Los Alamitos Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1921 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of William and Barbara Drake Thorp. She moved with her family to Nebraska and later back to Kansas City, where she attended John Fiske Grade School and Rosedale High School. She married Earl Holroyd on May 13, 1940 in Harrisonville, Missouri. Earl preceded her in death on October 3, 2001. Alice was active in many activities in Kansas City, including past president of Gold Star Mothers, Past President of Rosedale American Legion Auxiliary #346, Past President of Al Lyth Chapter of American War Mothers and a member of Wy Jon 8 & 40. After the family moved to Mound City, she became a member of the American Legion Auxilary and was a past member of Rainbow E.H.U. in Mound City. She was preceded in death also by her parents and two sons; Harold & James. Survivors include one son, Bill Holroyd & Jo of Stanton, California; her brother, Ted Thorp & wife of Springfield, Missouri; a niece Mr. & Mrs. Jim Pemberton of Osawatomie, Kansas; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas; Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Wednesday, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas.
