Alberta Bell Murray, 85, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas. She was born June 8, 1924 in Mound City, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas B. and Irene Hewitt New. Alberta graduated from Mound City High School and began working for AAA which later became the ASCS office in Mound City and she then worked as a bookkeeper in Washington, DC during World War II, for the war effort. She and L.D. owned the Trading Post Store and she also was a bookkeeper for L. D. and Kirby and other family members. On September 21, 1946, she married L.D. Murray at Fort Scott, Kansas. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Pleasanton and the Trading Post Museum. Alberta loved gardening, especially her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J.B. and Wilbur New and a granddaughter, Micaela Nicole Murray. Survivors include her husband, L.D. Murray of the home; one son, Kirby Murray & Karen of Pleasanton, Kansas; one daughter, Leslie Klopfenstein & John of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Charles New & Dorothy of Kansas City, Kansas; five sisters, Charlotte Dunavan & Owen of Mound City, Kansas, Sandra Snow & Bob of Pleasanton, Kansas, Marsha White of Raymore, Missouri, Janet Keating & Ed of Bucyrus, Kansas and Joetta Marti & Darren of Manhattan, Kansas; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and her dog "J.C." Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 21, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Pleasanton, Kansas . Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the United Methodist Church.
