A.L. "Whitey" Jr.

Abraham Lincoln "Whitey" Schasteen, Jr., the son of Abraham L. and Beulah Hewitt Schasteen was born May 21, 1924 at Mound City, Kansas. He married Elaine Ferguson on May 1, 1948. They have two children, Meredith Ison, husband Marty and Wayne Schasteen, wife Diane, 4 grandchildren, Matt Ison wife Jennie, Marnie Ison, Bobby Daugherty, and Wendy Collier husband Ryan and 4 great grandchildren, Jack, Peyton, Grace, and Brynn. He is survived by brothers Jim, Tom, and Arthur Schasteen and sisters Josephine Carmack, Annie Patrick, and Pauline Arnold. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers Henry and Donald. Abraham was a lifelong resident of Mound City. He worked for the city of Mound City, the natural gas company in Prescott, and was a member of Union 1290 at the LaCygne Power Plant. Whitey proudly served his country in WWII and spent 30 years in the Kansas National Guard. He enjoyed his family, his garden and the many mornings he spent having coffee with his friends. Cremation with Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, April 13, 2007 at National Cemetery, Fort Scott,Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City,Kansas. Contributions may be made to Midland Hospice.
